Babar Azam broke Imran Khan's record

Babar, Waqar Younis won 8, 8 Test matches out of their first 12 as captains, Imran Khan, Saleem Malik 7, 7, Musbah ul Haq 6, Wasim Akram managed to win 5 Test matches.

Pakistan comfortably beat Sri Lanka in a record-setting Test match in Galle thanks to Babar Azam and young batsman Abdullah Shafiq, who scored centuries in the first and second innings respectively.

Babar Azam now equals Waqar Younis with the most Test wins after 12 matches as captain, along with Pakistan's successful pursuit of their second biggest target in the history of Test cricket.

He left players like Imran Khan, Saleem Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram behind.

Babar Azam and Waqar Younis won 8 and 8 out of their first 12 Test matches, Imran Khan and Saleem Malik are jointly second after winning 7 Tests, while Misbah-ul-Haq is third after winning 6 Tests and Wasim Akram is fourth in this list with success in 5 Test matches.

Earlier this week, the all-format skipper equaled former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq's record for most centuries as a Pakistan captain after scoring his seventh Test century on the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

It is worth noting that under Babar Azam's captaincy, Pakistan have chased down their highest ever score in T20 cricket and ODI cricket as well as the second highest score in Test cricket.

''Babar Azam is also the second captain after Misbah-ul-Haq to defeat South Africa in a three-match ODI series at home and 20 years later to win against Australia in the same format.''

Pakistan moved to third place in the Test Championship points table with the recent victory, and likely need to win 4 of their remaining 6 matches to reach the final of the World Test Championship.
