Disney's new film 'Lightyear' has been banned in the United Arab Emirates
Disney and Pixar's new animated film 'Lightyear' has been banned in UAE cinemas and similar reports are coming from Saudi Arabia.
The UAE's media regulatory office did not give a specific reason for its decision, but the film includes a scene of a gay kiss.
The department has only said that the content of the film violates the standards of media in the country and therefore it has been banned.
The main character of the movie 'Toy Story' is the character of the franchise 'Buzz Lightyear'.
The UAE's media regulatory office tweeted that a red cross had been placed on a picture of Buzz.
Just six months before the ban on Lightyear, the UAE said it would stop censoring movie releases and announced a 21-year-old rating for the films. The Media Regulatory Office announced that the animated film Lightyear, which is scheduled for release on 16th June, is not licensed for public screening in all cinemas in the UAE, due to its violation of the country’s media content standards. pic.twitter.com/f3iYwXqs1D

Lastyear, Pixar's film "Onward" reportedly was banned by several Middle Eastern countries for referring to gay parents.
In April, Saudi Arabia requested censorship of LGBT scenes in Disney's "Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", which was eventually not shown in the country.
Other films that feature gay stories and have been censored in various countries include Elton John's 'Rocket Man'.
