National team captain Babar Azam has said that it is his dream to become the No. 1 ranked batsman in all the three formats. 

Veteran Indian batsman Karthik was speaking on the ICC Review when he said that Babar Azam could soon become the No. 1 batsman in all three formats. 

Babar Azam is currently at the top of the ODI and T20 rankings, while in the Test rankings, he is ranked 5th behind Marinus Lubshin, Steve Smith, Ken Williamson and Joe Root.

Babar Azam said that as a player it is a dream to be number one in all formats and for that you have to focus and work hard. It is not that if you are the top player in one or two formats then you will easily get the first position even in the third format.

"If you want to be number one in all three formats, you have to keep fit and on track," he said.

Now back to back cricket is played and the gap is reduced, for that you need to be extra fit, this is what I am preparing for, it is playing well in white ball and hopefully I will also be able to perform well in the test. 

Babar Azam was talking to the media ahead of the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies to be played on June 8, 10 and 12.

After the T20 series between the two teams, three ODIs were postponed last December due to the spread of Corona in the West Indies camp. Pakistan had a clean sweep of 3-0 in the T20 series and continued their strong whiteball form by winning the ODI series 2-1 at home against Australia. 

Babar Azam was the star batsman with two centuries and a half-century in three ODIs against Australia as his average was 142.5 and he scored with a strike rate of 116.8.

Babar Azam said that as a team and captain you think of a clean sweep in the series no matter who the opponent is. 

The ODIs between Pakistan and West Indies will start at 4 pm local time in Multan to avoid the scorching heat. The three ODIs are part of the Super League in which both the teams will automatically qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2023 if they reach the top 8 by chasing important points.
