Colonel Sayyed Khudai: Assassination of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Colonel

A colonel of the powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guards has been shot dead in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi has linked the assassination of Col. Hassan Sayyid Khudai to foreign elements, saying "there is no doubt that his blood will be avenged."

On Sunday, two gunmen on a motorcycle reportedly shot Col. Sayyad Khudai five times in a car outside his home, killing him on the spot.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. ''Police have launched a search for unknown individuals.''

In a press conference held at Mehrabad airport before leaving for Oman, Iranian President Ibrahim Raeisi ordered security officials to seriously pursue and investigate the killing.

Attributing the killing of a member of the Quds Force to foreign agents, the Iranian president said that the hand of global arrogance could be seen in this crime. In Iranian official literature, global arrogance is a term used by government officials for rivals or their like-minded enemies abroad.

Ibrahim Raisi added that those who lost to the defenders of the sanctuary and the sanctuary in the square wanted to express their frustration in this way.

The killing is a major setback for Iran's security following the death of a prominent nuclear scientist in 2020.

''Colonel Sayyid Khudai was a senior member of the Elite Quds Force.'' The force is an external branch of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) whose duties include conducting operations abroad. The United States has accused the elite force of supporting terrorist organizations and being responsible for attacks across the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzada said Col. Sayyid Khudai was killed by Iran's enemies. According to the spokesman, these terrorists are associated with the so-called world powers. This is a reference to the United States and its allies.

''The spokesman added that many other countries claim to be fighting terrorism. It is very unfortunate that they are completely silent and support this (murder).''

Earlier, ''Iranian officials accused Israel of being involved in the assassination of such figures.''

As news of the assassination spread, Iranian state media reported that Revolutionary Guards had exposed and arrested a network of Israeli spies. There has been no Israeli response.

Remember that Khudai is the second most important figure in the Quds Force killed in recent years.

In 2020, General Qasim Soleimani, Iran's most powerful military commander, was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq. General Qasim Soleimani, as the head of the Quds Force, had extended the scope of Iranian military operations to the Middle East. The death of General Qasim Soleimani has further strained US-Iranian relations.

''In the year 2020, Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizada was assassinated in Tehran.'' He was of some importance to Iran and was always accompanied by several security personnel.

''Mohsen Fakhrizada played a key role in Iran's nuclear program. However, Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.''

Iran has accused Israel of killing its nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizada. According to Iran, Israel used a remote-controlled weapon to kill him.
