According to the details, significant progress has been made in making operational the first and most modern mass transit project in Karachi, the world's most devastated city with public transport system.
According to media reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the Karachi Green Line bus project this month. In this regard, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has recently given a special briefing to the Prime Minister.
It may be recalled that 80 modern buses have reached Karachi for Karachi Green Line bus project. The modern buses manufactured in China for the project were delivered to Karachi by 2 separate shipments.
According to officials, in the first phase, green line buses will run from Surjani Town to Namaish Chowrangi (Gurmunder), where the track has been completed so far. It should be noted that this project was started in 2016.
According to the company providing buses for the Karachi Green Line project, Karachi buses are the most modern compared to those operating in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. These buses are Euro 3 standard and hybrid, with diesel in them. Automatic charging batteries will also be used which will save fuel as well as benefit the environment.
The buses are equipped with special system which will automatically put out the fire in case of engine fire.''.The 18 meter long bus has 40 seats''. 150 people will be able to travel standing and on the seats at the same time, in case of heavy rush there will be capacity of 190 passengers. The buses have a special area for the disabled and an automatic ramp is installed. Each bus has space for two wheelchairs. The buses will have special seats for women and persons with disabilities.
Hybrid buses built for the Karachi Green Line Transport Project are made in China. These buses will be longer and fully air-conditioned than the traditional local buses in Karachi. Each bus can carry 200 to 250 passengers.
