EU announces package

The European Union has increased its aid package to Afghanistan and its neighbors to one billion euros.

The head of the European Commission, Arusolavan Derlein, announced that the European Union would release an additional 700 million euros for the Afghan aid package, while European aid would be spent on humanitarian, social and economic needs in Afghanistan.

He said part of the European aid would go to neighboring countries that sheltered Afghan citizens.

The President of the European Commission said that every effort must be made to save Afghanistan from human, social and economic catastrophe.

He added that the Taliban would have to meet five EU conditions for long-term assistance.
