Explosions during Friday prayers at a mosque in Afghanistan
A bomb blast near a mosque in the Afghan city of Kunduz has killed at least 55 people and injured dozens more.
According to the French news agency, the blast took place in a mosque in Saeedabad area of Kunduz and a large number of people were present in the mosque at the time of the blast.
At least 55 people were killed, AFP quoted hospital sources as saying. A doctor at Kunduz Central Hospital said on condition of anonymity that 35 bodies and 50 wounded had been brought to him.
In addition, 20 bodies were brought to a hospital run by Doctors Without Borders.
The Turkish news agency Anadolu quoted local Afghan radio as saying that about 100 people had been killed and more than 200 injured in the blast, which took place during Friday prayers.
According to local media, the blast was a suicide. Matiullah Rouhani, head of the information and culture department of the Taliban's interim government in Afghanistan, confirmed the blast and said 45 people had been killed and 143 injured. He also confirmed that the blast was a suicide.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed the blast, but declined to say how many were killed.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast. It should be noted that since the establishment of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, ISIS has been carrying out bombings.
