China demands accountability of foreign forces in Afghanistan

The UN Human Rights Council held a special meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, which was attended by delegates from various countries.

The Chinese envoy called for accountability of foreign forces in Afghanistan and said that foreign forces, including the United States, Britain and Australia, should be held accountable for human rights violations.

Addressing the special session, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet called on the Taliban to honor its promises to respect women's rights and make them a reality.

He said the Taliban's treatment of women would set a red line.

Michelle Bashley said the UN Human Rights Council had set up a mechanism to monitor the Taliban's actions.

The High Commissioner said there were credible reports of serious violations of international law in many areas under Taliban control.
