The Taliban have laid siege to the Afghan capital, Kabul, after seizing several key cities.

According to foreign media, the Afghan government is confined to Kabul. The previous day, the Taliban had captured the last major city near the Uzbek border, Mazar-e-Sharif, while Jalalabad has also come under Taliban control.

It should be noted that the Taliban could not capture Mazar-e-Sharif even in their first term.

In addition to the two main provinces of Paktia and Paktika along the Pakistani border, Faryab and Kunar have also slipped out of the hands of the Afghan government, and ''the Taliban have so far seized 25 of the 34 provincial capitals.''

According to the British media, Kabul remained in darkness for several hours but no reason could be found.

There were long queues at Kabul airport

The Taliban have begun besieging the capital, Kabul, and the only way out of the city is at Kabul Airport, with long queues and difficulty finding tickets.

Taliban refrain from harming evacuation personnel: US President

Meanwhile, the United States has sent troops to Kabul to evacuate its diplomatic staff, while US President Joe Biden has increased the number of troops for the safe evacuation of US personnel from 3,000 to 5,000.

The US president has also warned the Taliban to refrain from harming evacuation personnel.

Defending the decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, Biden said, "Our troops have been in Afghanistan under four US presidents, but they will not extend this war to a fifth president."
