Saudi Arabia's National Center of Meteorology has started operational operations and flights for the second phase of the artificial rain program in the southwestern mountainous regions including Taif, Al-Baha, Asir and Jazan, in addition to the coastal areas.

Earlier, the first phase of cloud seeding program has been completed in Riyadh, Qasim and Hail areas.

According to media reports, CEO of National Center of Meteorology and General Supervisor of Cloud Seeding Program, Dr. Ayman bin Salim Ghulam, explained during his follow-up on the progress of cloud seeding operations on targeted areas in Jeddah that the second phase cloud Seeding is progressing as planned.

He said that according to the initial estimates of ground and air operation experts, this program is progressing successfully.

In this regard, the schedule of flights and the program to prepare the clouds are in progress.

The technical team of experts is continuously analyzing the data to advance the weather and environment friendly program to identify areas with suitable weather conditions and start artificial rainfall there. He said that the aim of this program is to increase the rainfall in all regions of the state.

He further said that this work is going on in coordination with all government and related sectors. Efforts are being made to leverage the results of the cloud seeding program to maximize investment in the field, its promising results and to make it environment-friendly.

The seeding program is one of the outcomes of the Green Middle East Summit, which was announced by the Saudi Crown Prince.

It is an initiative on which the Center is coordinated with national initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development, conservation, environment and resource development.

It is an important means of increasing quantity and quality. In order to take advantage of its properties and accelerate the process of precipitation over pre-defined areas, it is done by airplanes that transport fine materials that are not harmful to the environment to specific areas of the cloud.

The aim of the program is to increase rainfall, increase vegetation cover and accelerate afforestation to find new sources of water.
