Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials have arrested a man wanted by the British who had fled the UK 27 years ago after allegedly killing a man and was living in Pakistan.
According to the FIA, the man had been wanted by the British National Crime Agency (NCA) in the same murder case for the past 27 years.
Sheikh Zubair Ahmed, Additional Director of the FIA's Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Islamabad Zone, told that the accused had killed an Asian man in Wales, UK in May 1995 and fled the UK after the murder. He had come to Pakistan.
He said that the British police had declared the accused wanted and wanted in this case. Authorities say the suspect fled the UK and changed his identity in Pakistan, and now, 27 years later, he has been arrested with the help of British authorities.
The FIA official said that the accused belonged to Mirpur district of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The accused returned to Pakistan and changed his identity and made an identity card in which he wrote his fake name Zameer Ali son of Muhammad Aslam.
According to Sheikh Zubair, "the person whose name is written in the birth certificate box in this fake identity card is the younger brother of the accused."
He said that apart from Interpol, officials of the British National Crime Agency were also in touch with Pakistani authorities regarding the investigation of the case.
An official in the team investigating the case said that the accused Basharat was also doing various business while in hiding in Pakistan, including the business of sending people abroad, according to the official of the investigation team.
According to the FIA, during the interrogation of such a case, when the accused Basharat was questioned, he also confessed to the murder committed in Britain in 1995.
According to the Additional Director of Anti-Human Trafficking, the British authorities have been informed about the confession of the accused.
He said that the accused was produced in the court of Additional Deputy Commissioner General of Islamabad who has sent the accused to jail on judicial remand.
Sheikh Zubair Ahmed said that work has been started on the procedure for handing over the accused to the British authorities which will take about two months.
The Additional Director overseeing the investigation of the case said that according to the preliminary investigation, the accused was working at a clothing store in UK and 27 years ago he had an argument with another Pakistani on a matter which enraged him. And this Pakistani was killed as a result of firing.
Sheikh Zubair said that the accused said that after this incident he had initially fled to France from where he came to Pakistan some time later.
According to Sheikh Zubair, the accused's family is still residing in the UK.
He said that FIA personnel had also conducted reiki in the area where the accused was residing. He said British authorities had been notified of the arrest.
