Benazir Bhutto assassination case; Rao Anwar opens a new Pandora box

''Rehman Malik was under pressure to implicate Pervez Musharraf in the assassination.I did not see the role of former President Pervez Musharraf in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case and when evidence was sought in this regard, it was not found.'' Interview with a former police officer

Former senior police officer Rao Anwar has made important revelations in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

According to newspaper, senior journalist Mazhar Abbas has reported that Rao Anwar revealed in an interview given to him that the investigation into Benazir Bhutto's murder case was not conducted properly, then Interior Minister Rehman Malik was under pressure that Benazir General Musharraf should be involved in Bhutto's assassination.

I did not see the role of former President Pervez Musharraf in Benazir's assassination case and when evidence was sought in this regard, it was not found. A lot of things were being hidden so I refused to sign the JIT.

In this regard, Rao Anwar further said that once he went to meet former President Asif Ali Zardari and asked him about BlackBerry phones, he sent me to Rehman Malik, when I handed over the phones from Rehman Malik.

When asked, he flatly denied that he did not have a phone, then he got angry and asked why he finally went to Mr. Zardari?

Former police officer Rao Anwar also revealed that another terrorist group led by Tayyab Mehsud was involved in a suicide attack on October 18, 2007 in Karachi on the occasion of Benazir Bhutto's return home, in which 180 people were martyred.

Former Interior Minister Rehman Malik, as head of Benazir Bhutto's security, should have investigated the case, but he did not.

It may be recalled that Senator Rehman Malik was the Federal Minister of Home Affairs during the PPP regime from 2008 to 2013. Senior PPP leaders had recently passed away at the age of 70.

Rehman Malik was suffering from Corona virus. Affected by the virus, which caused Rehman Malik to have difficulty breathing, he was again transferred to a private hospital in Islamabad on a ventilator, but died.
