Imam-ul-Haq broke Graham Gooch's 37-year record

Imam-ul-Haq scored 298 runs with the help of a half-century and two centuries. Graham Gooch scored 289 runs in a three-match series in 1985.

Imam-ul-Haq, the opening batsman of the national team, has broken the 37-year-old record of former British batsman Graham Gooch for scoring more runs overall against Australia in a three-match ODI series.

Imam-ul-Haq scored 298 runs with the help of a half-century and two centuries in the ODI series during his tour of Australia, which is a world record.

Earlier, Graham Gooch had scored 289 runs in a three-match series against Australia in 1985. Babar Azam is third in the series with 276 runs while South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaassen is fourth with 242 runs in 2020.

It may be recalled that Pakistan won the ODI series after 20 years by defeating Australia by 9 wickets in the third ODI.

''In this match being played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan had decided to field again after winning the toss against Australia''.

''Batting first, the visitors were bowled out for 210 in 41.5 overs''. National team fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled Travis Head on the first ball while Harris Rauf bowled Aaron Finch in the next over.

Harris Rauf also dismissed Marinus Labushin, who returned to the pavilion with 4 runs scored. The fourth out was Marcus Stevens, whose wicket was taken by Zahid Mahmood, who scored 19 runs.

After him, the century maker Ben McDermott of the last match could not stay on the wicket for long and he was dismissed for 36 runs.

When half the Australian team had returned to the pavilion on the 67th set and the chances of the visiting team getting out early had become clear, then the Australian team started resisting and managed to cross the 200 mark.

Alex Kerry (56), Sean Abbott (49) and Cameron's Green (34) contributed to the visitors' total of 211 runs.

Fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Waseem were prominent bowlers for the national team with 3 wickets each while Shaheen Afridi took two wickets, Zahid Mahmood and Iftikhar Ahmed took one wicket each.

In pursuit of the goal, Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq once again displayed their full potential, both forming an unbeaten 190-run partnership to lead the national team to a historic victory.

The only batsman to be dismissed by the national team was Fakhr Zaman, who was dismissed for 17 off 27 balls by Natha Ellis.
