Surveillance introduced under the system will ensure that only real overseas Pakistanis and foreigners can benefit from this facility, the report said.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTE) have teamed up with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the mobile phone operator for the temporary registration of mobiles of overseas Pakistanis and foreigners. 

A new system has been created. According to media reports, this scheme has been introduced for overseas Pakistanis and foreigners who do not want to keep their mobile in Pakistan.

To avail this facility, the applicant has to provide passport number, expected date of arrival and departure to Pakistan, mobile SIM issued in name and IMEI number of the mobile. 

This new system is FIA's Integrated Border Management System. (IBMS) to verify the date of arrival of the applicant in Pakistan.

If the stay of the applicant exceeds 120 days, the IMEI used under this facility will be suspended and the local network will not be used. If the same applicant visits Pakistan again, The previously submitted document has to be re-submitted and re-applied for this facility. 

This system will not only provide facility to foreigners coming to Pakistan in short term and overseas Pakistanis but will also present a positive image of the country. 

Similarly, the surveillance introduced under this system will ensure that only real overseas Pakistanis and foreigners can avail this facility.
