A statement from the Belarusian counterpart's office said, "At about 5 o'clock this morning, the presidents of Belarus and Russia had a telephone conversation.
''Russian forces have now reached the outskirts of the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.''
Russia invades Ukraine, followed by bombings in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. According to foreign media, martial law has been enforced in Ukraine.
According to British media, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a special military operation in Ukraine and demanded that the Ukrainian army surrender. The operation is in response to Ukraine's threats and for an unarmed region.
On the other hand, after the United States, Britain, the European Union, Germany and Canada, Australia has also announced sanctions on Russia over Russia's recognition of the two separatist regions of Ukraine as independent states.
According to media reports, in a statement issued from Melbourne, the Australian Prime Minister said that immediate sanctions would be imposed on those responsible for Russia's actions against Ukraine.
He said all allies would stand up against Russia, adding that sanctions on Russia would include sanctions on some Russians.
''The Australian prime minister also said that travel and financial sanctions would be imposed on Russia.''
Speaking to the nation yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the two territories of Ukraine as independent, and ordered the deployment of peacekeepers in independent Donetsk and Luhansk. I also claimed genocide and non-compliance with the Minsk agreement.
