Serena Issa, wife of Pakistan's Supreme Court Judge Qazi Faiz Issa, has alleged that she was allegedly harassed at her home in Karachi by Army and Interior Ministry intelligence officials.

In a complaint lodged with Pakistan's Federal Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Inspector General of Police Sindh and Sindh Home Department on December 31, Serena Issa said that the incident took place in Phase-Five of the Defense Housing Authority in Karachi when she lost her mother. She was busy repairing her house.

When the Pakistan Army tried to comment on the allegations, a senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that so far the Ministry of Defense or the Ministry of Home Affairs had not received the request from Serena Issa. It would be premature to comment, but an Interior Ministry official told the BBC that "so far we have not received any such written complaint."

"Two men broke in, claiming to be from military intelligence."

According to Serena Isa's written complaint, after the death of her parents, the house was transferred to her two brothers and in her name, for whom she had come to Karachi to paint and repair.

Serena Issa stated in a written complaint that on December 29, at 12:15 pm, two men entered her house saying that they belonged to military intelligence.

Serena Issa wrote in the statement that the officers who entered her house inquired about her family and handed her a four page form and asked her to fill it.

He added that the form did not mention military intelligence or any other agency. He wrote that the two men handed over the form to him and left saying that they would come back in two days to collect the completed form.

Incidents of family intimidation and pressure continue

He wrote that he and his daughter were still shocked and disturbed by how easily these men entered his house when at that moment two other persons came who claimed to be from the Interior Ministry's Intelligence Department. The two officials also came and asked him questions about his family.

Serena said in a statement that when she again asked the officials for an identity card or a permit issued by the agency, the officials refused to give the card or say anything further. One of them gave his name as Inspector Muhammad Zeeshan.

This time Serena was not given any form to fill in but an official asked her for her phone number and said that he would send her questions on WhatsApp.

He wrote that in the presence of these individuals, a senior DHA officer was contacted on the phone and the officer told him that the DHA, the Military State Office and the Cantonment Board should be asked about this (ie Serena). Information is not required and these personnel have not been sent by DHA.

According to Serena Issa, these people said that they would come again and it would be better for them to provide information or face the consequences.

Confirming this, a senior DHA official told that "there is no confirmation or verification from the DHA about home ownership and owners." Was made However, only those who are wanted in corruption cases are investigated.

It may be recalled that in June 2020, in the decision of the Presidential Reference against Serena Issa's husband and Justice Qazi Faiz Issa of the Supreme Court, the court had directed the FBR to look into Serena Issa's property and tax matters and its report. It was directed to be submitted to the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

In this decision, the majority of the 10-member bench of the Supreme Court had declared null and void the presidential reference against Justice Qazi Faiz Issa while seven of the judges had directed to send the case of Justice Qazi Faiz Issa's wife and their children to FBR. 

In a letter written by Serena Issa, referring to some past incidents that took place during the case against Justice Qazi Faiz Issa, she said that her family continues to be intimidated and pressured.

They have questioned why they were not asked in writing if they needed any information and why some people were sent to intimidate them.

Serena Issa has demanded the Sindh government and police to register a case against them and take legal action.
