Crypto currency: Digital currency stolen from merchants transferred to Hamas military wing, Indian police claim
Indian police claim to have identified a cybercriminal group that stole crores of rupees worth of corrupt currency from India and transferred it to the accounts of the militant wing of the Palestinian organization Hamas.
A businessman from Delhi's Paschim Vihar area had lodged a report with the police in 2019 alleging that someone had stolen from his bitcoin electronic wallet (e-wallet) about Rs 3.5 million in fraudulent currency. The value of this digital currency stolen in 2019 is now more than 40 million.
The case was initially investigated as a case of minor financial fraud, but the Delhi Police Cyber Cell launched an investigation after receiving further information from Israeli defense officials.
Cyber Cell Deputy Commissioner of Police KPS Malhotra told reporters that the cryptocurrency was hacked and stolen from the Delhi businessman's digital accounts.
The investigation revealed that 6.7 bitcoin, 9.79 Ethereum and 2.44 bitcoin cash were transferred to three different accounts.
According to police, the bitcoin was transferred to the vault (account) of the Hamas-linked Al-Qasim Brigade, while the rest of the cryptocurrency was transferred to other accounts.
Deputy Commissioner of Police KP Malhotra said, “The stolen cryptocurrency reached the suspected vault through various hands. We have learned that the account belonging to the Palestinian organization Hamas has been sealed by the Israeli anti-terrorism agency.
Police said that the account of Al-Qasim Brigade which has been sealed by the Israeli agency is registered in the name of Muhammad Naseer Ibrahim Abdullah.
He added that the rest of the currency had been transferred from Giza in Egypt and Ramallah in Palestine to registered accounts.
A large portion of the stolen currency was transferred to Giza accounts registered in the name of Ahmed Marzouq, while another account is registered in the name of Ahmed Safi of Ramallah.
Police say they have obtained details of all these accounts and some of them have been used to finance terrorism
Two years ago, the Al-Qasim Brigade asked people on its social media pages and on its website to donate in corrupt currency. In the case of cryptocurrency, the person providing the fund remains anonymous and its sale and purchase is also kept secret.
Last year, a firm that monitors the sale and purchase of cryptocurrencies revealed that Hamas was raising funds for its activities through a digital wallet.
Following the revelations, the Israeli Defense Ministry's counterterrorism agency announced that it had closed several Hamas-linked cryptocurrency accounts.
Israel provided details of the alleged Hamas accounts to several countries, including India.
Due to the extraordinary interest in cryptocurrency around the world, the price of digital coin is increasing tremendously but at the same time cyber attacks and cyber robberies are also increasing for its theft.
Digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dodge Coin are housed in digital wallets, and cryptocurrency companies provide users with a highly secure password to access this wallet.
This wallet is a must have, for any Affiliate, promoting any program. Criminal elements hack into the wallet in a smartphone and try to steal the currency in it.
It should be noted that the incidence of theft of cryptocurrency has increased many times in the last two years.
