Karachi: Blast in Sher Shah, death toll rises to 15
A blast at Paracha Chowk in Sher Shah area of Karachi killed 15 people including the father of National Assembly member Alamgir Khan and injured 11 others while a nearby bank building collapsed.
Another blast during the rescue operation disrupted the rescue operation, and several people are reported to be buried in the rubble of the building. According to rescue officials, many bodies were recovered from the drain.
Bomb Disposal Report
As soon as the blast was reported, a bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene and prepared a final report.
According to the final report of BDS, the blast occurred due to gas filling in the drain. A similar incident had taken place in this area in the past.
The blast was so severe that nearby vehicles and other buildings were severely damaged.
Pakistan Navy has provided its services to search for the missing persons in the drain. Divers are conducting search operation in the drain, however, rescue operation is facing difficulties due to darkness.
MNA Alamgir Khan's father killed
Dilawar Khan, father of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Alamgir Khan, his showroom manager Rashid and Khansaman Islam were also killed in the blast.
The PTI has confirmed that Dilawar Khan, father of National Assembly member Alamgir Khan, was also killed in the Sher Shah blast.
PTI leader and Sindh Assembly member Malik Shehzad Awan has expressed regret over the Sher Shah blast. He said that Dilawar Khan, father of our National Assembly member Alamgir Khan also died in the blast.
The body of Dilawar Khan, father of National Assembly member Alamgir Khan has been shifted to his residence. His funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow (Sunday) at 4 pm at Jamia Masjid Huda in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
PM expresses regret
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also expressed his sorrow over the Sher Shah blast. Expressing grief over the death of 15 people including Alamgir Khan's father, he offered condolences to the affected families. He said that he was saddened to hear of the death of Alamgir Khan's father. May Allah help him and his family to bear the trauma.
DIG South
Talking to SAMAA Digital, District DIG Sharjeel Kharal said that the blast may have been due to gas leakage but it could not be ascertained until the report of the bomb disposal team.
The DIG had confirmed that more people were trapped under the rubble due to the collapse of the building due to the blast and rescue operation was underway to evacuate them. He also said that the bank building was built above the drain.

An eyewitness said that the bank was open at the time of the blast where normal work was going on.
A police official said that complaints of gas on the drain have been coming before while the building was built on the drain and the explosion took place from inside.
The dead and injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital while two injured have been admitted to Burn Center.
Civil Hospital Karachi
According to the Civil Hospital administration, 11 bodies have been identified and 4 bodies are yet to be identified while the condition of several injured is said to be critical. Fingerprints will be taken to identify the bodies.
Sabir Memon, in-charge of the trauma center, said most of the injured had facial and chest injuries.
He said that all the injured have been seen but two patients may have to be kept on ventilators. Most of the injured were injured due to the collapse of the building.
CTD incharge
CTD in-charge Mazhar Mashwani said that the blast in Sher Shah area of Karachi did not appear to be sabotage as no ball bearings were found at the site of the blast.
He said that only after the final report of BDS could anything be said about the blast.
Deputy Commissioner Kemari
On the blast, Deputy Commissioner Kemari said that it is illegal to build any building on the drain, the rest will be checked if anyone has given papers on it.
He said that action would be taken against those who did not have papers here and such a strategy would be formulated against those who have papers so that papers could be canceled.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took notice of the blast and ordered an immediate inquiry.
He directed that police officers should be involved in the investigation so that all aspects of the blast could be investigated.
Direction of Sindh Health Minister
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechoho condemned the Sher Shah blast and issued orders for immediate medical aid to the injured.
Emergency was declared at Trauma Center and Jinnah Hospital on the direction of Sindh Health Minister. He directed that all possible medical aid would be provided to the injured and all resources would be utilized to save the lives of the injured.
Dr Azra Pechoho said that so far 14 people have been killed in the incident and 13 bodies have been brought to the Trauma Center of Civil Hospital Karachi.
Senior Officer Habib Bank
Senior bank officer Habib Ali Habib said that the bank damaged in the blast was at a rented place, there were no lockers in the bank and all the cash of the bank was insured and the account holders would not be harmed.

Site Limited staff
This is not a drain of KMC but falls within the limits of Site Limited and despite the passage of several hours, the staff of Site Limited did not reach the site.
According to sources, Site Limited cleans the drains and does not take action against illegal constructions whereas Site Limited collects rent on an annual basis from the constructions on Sher Shah Nala.
MD Site Limited declined to comment on the matter.
A relative of the cashier who died at the bank said that his cousin was killed in an explosion while on duty.
Bank lockers also fell outside after the blast, which have been set aside by bank security.
According to a bank security guard, several people snatched notes and dolls after the blast.
No gas pipeline at the site of the blast, Sui Southern Gas Company said
On the other hand, Sui Southern Gas Company said in a statement that the teams of Sui Southern Gas at the site of the Sher Shah blast have confirmed that ''there is no gas pipeline of the company at the site of the incident''.Gas pipelines are perfectly safe and unharmed.
The company added that there was no smell of natural gas and no fire at the scene, which is a clear indication that the explosion was caused by a Sui Southern Gas Company pipe. Cannot connect to line.
