Green Line project, clash with Rangers

It is not a new thing for different governments in Pakistan to re-launch the same project and call it 'their own' project.

However, now a unique incident has taken place in Karachi where PML-N leaders arrived to inaugurate the Green Line BRT project which is to be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced the Green Line BRT project in 2014.

Much has changed in Pakistan since then and this project is now going to be active in the era of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

But on Thursday, former PML-N interior minister Ahsan Iqbal, former finance minister and former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair arrived at the project's Nazimabad No. 7 station to inaugurate the project.

What happened then?

It is being reported that the PML-N leaders were trying to symbolically inaugurate the project.

PML-N had announced its plan a day earlier and that the Prime Minister would be here on Friday.

Probably a factor as to why they're doing so poorly.

Anjum Wahab said that shortly before this, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar and Sindh Governor Imran Ismail had also reached Hyderi stop while traveling in a test bus of Green Line from Namaish Chowrangi.

Later in the afternoon, dozens of Muslim League activists, led by Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Zubair and Muftah Ismail, chanted slogans and tried to reach the metro bus station, but security personnel were almost ready for the situation.

Now the Muslim League leaders say they only wanted to cut a symbolic ribbon and had no intention of entering the station.

But in the videos, the workers could also be seen on the steps of the station.

While the political activists were being pushed back, Ahsan Iqbal's fingers were also injured when he was allegedly hit by Rangers personnel carrying batons.

In later videos, Ahsan Iqbal and Rangers personnel can be seen mingling.

Showing the wounds on his fingers later in a press conference, Ahsan Iqbal proudly said that his "blood has also been involved" in the development of Karachi and the inauguration of the Green Line.

When Ahsan Iqbal spoke out against the 'state violence' against him, Muhammad Zubair addressed the Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that the project he wanted to inaugurate has already been done, now he does not need to come. ۔

After the incident, PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif condemned it and said that the incident should be investigated.

And then Muftah Ismail, while accusing the PPP government of not providing any funds for the project, also criticized the PTI for completing the Peshawar BRT at a cost of Rs 125 billion.

Immediately after that, the PML-N workers immediately started criticizing on social media and kept on trending 'Thank you Nawaz Sharif' in which the PML-N workers reacted to the incident on Thursday. Keep blaming TI.

But Asad Umar, a planning minister from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), also addressed a separate function with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, saying that nothing was done during the PML-N era other than the preparation of the track. Until the project became operational, all operations were completed in the PTI era.

Social media users reaction

The incident drew mixed reactions from social media users, with supporters of both parties criticizing each other.

One user wrote that senior politician Ahsan Iqbal should not fall into the trap of getting attention. That's ridiculous. "

Another user Faizan Khan wrote that this picture shows how our progress was stopped and how Pakistan was stopped from making progress by appointing one person in charge.

However, there were some people who described the situation in a humorous way.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar also faced a similar situation with Rangers in August 2016. Probably referring to this, a user named Asad wrote that "Farooq Bhai must have been thinking about what happened to Ahsan Iqbal today when I kept telling him that this is not a solution, then he did not agree."
