Permission to use loudspeakers for Friday prayers in Germany's largest mosque
In Germany's largest mosque, loudspeakers have been allowed to be used for Friday prayers.
According to a foreign news agency, the use of loudspeakers for Friday prayers has been allowed in the country's largest mosque in Cologne, Germany's fourth largest city.
Permission to call to prayer over loudspeakers in the country's largest mosque has been granted under an agreement between the Cologne city administration and the Muslim community, in which the administration eased restrictions in this regard.
According to media reports, under an agreement between the city administration and the Muslim community, loudspeakers will be allowed in all 35 mosques in Cologne for Friday prayers.
A two-year agreement has been reached between the Cologne city administration and the Muslim community under which the call to prayer will be given through a loudspeaker for five minutes on Friday from 12 noon to 3 pm.
Mayor Colon said in a statement on Twitter that allowing the muezzin to call to prayer was a sign of respect for him.
There are about 4.5 million Muslims in Germany, the country's largest religious minority.
