Taiwan: Chinese nuclear-armed planes fly into defense zone
A spokesman for Taiwan's defense ministry said that on October 1, 38 Chinese military planes flew over its defense zone, the largest attack by Beijing to date.
The Defense Ministry said the planes included nuclear-capable bombers that entered Taiwan's air defense zone in two phases.
According to the spokesman, Taiwan defended itself with the help of its jets and missile systems.
According to the BBC, Taiwan's Prime Minister Xu Sengchang told reporters today that China is undermining regional peace through military aggression.
Chinese officials have argued that such flights are intended to protect its sovereignty.
The Air Defense Identification Zone is the territory of any country and beyond its airspace, but foreign aircraft arriving here are controlled in the interest of identity surveillance and national security.
It should be noted that China considers Taiwan as its part while Taiwan considers itself an independent state.
China and Taiwan were divided during the civil war in the 1940s, but China has said the island could be recaptured by force at any time if need be.
